Bild
Last Tuesday, December 3, 2024, we had the honor of speaking with Dr. Evelyn Hu-DeHart, professor of History and director of the Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America at Brown University. She is one of the most influential voices in the study of diasporas, colonialism, and globalization. In this exclusive interview, Dr. Hu-DeHart reflected on key topics such as North-South inequalities, labor exploitation in the context of neoliberal globalization, and power dynamics among historically marginalized communities.During the conversation, we explored her groundbreaking research on Chinese coolies in Cuba and Peru, the impact of social hierarchies on plantations, and the connections between Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. We also delved into the relevance of ethnic studies and the importance of dismantling colonial narratives within and beyond academia.

Dr. Hu-DeHart offered a profound and critical perspective on how intersectional analysis can transform public policies and shared updates on her ambitious project about the Chinese in the Spanish Empire, which promises to open new perspectives on global connections in history.
We invite you to watch this fascinating interview and reflect with us on the challenges and hopes for globalization and social justice.
